Sony as quiet as they are have not completely cleared how many PS4 Games will run on PS5. Fans are always looking for clear and concise statements, and this is a bit controversial. In a statement by Mark Cerny made last year became the hub of discussion when he said only 100 PlayStation 4 titles work on PS5. His statement in my opinion indicated that most of the PS4 games will run on PS5.
“We recently took a look at the top 100 PlayStation 4 titles as ranked by playtime, and we’re expecting almost all of them to be playable at launch on PlayStation 5.”
Mark Cerny weeks after this once again cleared that “overwhelming majority” of the PS4 games will run on PS5. This discussion has been brought once again after the Xbox Series X blog yesterday relived its older gen console games support on Series X. The blog on Xbox Series wrote “The Most Powerful and Compatible Next-Gen Console with Thousands of Games at Launch”.
Similarly, a cached update to the official PS5 website indicated “play a back catalog of supported PS4 games with system update”. This was shared on ResetEra, later pointing out, it was removed.
Sony in my opinion has a lot of patience. They have not revealed a lot, they are completely quiet. Further, they will clear everything in the upcoming event. This goes from games to all sorts of questions. Fans are a bit confused regarding the backward compatibility on PS5.
If more than 100 games are supported on PS5, then I’m sure more will also be added. Personally speaking, I’m quite happy since Cerny stated that the top 100 PS4 titles will run on PS5. Anyone, who was always this excited for newer PlayStation will acknowledge that this is Sony’s way of releasing newer products. They let other things do the speaking for them, and after that, they drop a hot product.
