It seems that this feature will work on Chromebook and PC running Chrome as well. Android’s upcoming feature will be called Nearby Share or Nearby Sharing. This may also come to several Chrome platforms.
The piece will allow Android users to directly share snaps, links, and other files with other devices, similar to how AirDrop works across macOS and iOS.
Can be seen in the settings:
According to XDA Developers Airdrop has been in development for more than a year. It’s likely to be available through Google Play, and it will work not only on Android devices but also on Chromebooks and other computers with Google’s Chrome browser installed.
More on Nearby Sharing:
- Android 11 render shows AirDrop-like ‘Nearby’ integrated with share sheet
- Android’s version of AirDrop, ‘Fast Share,’ has been renamed to ‘Nearby Sharing’
It’s not clear when Nearby Share will publicly be unveiling, but given the amount of period, since rumors about it first started, chances are it won’t be too much longer.
